A top 25 list that is a must read

Best of the best. Best in class. The elite. Whatever terminology you use to describe the top performers in industry, they all have one thing in common: Companies try to emulate them. That is not easy, of course, but honors such as the annual Gartner Supply Chain Top 25 provide a roadmap for firms hoping to reach the upper echelon.

As we do each year here at Supply Chain Management Review, our September/October issue dedicates significant real estate to the Gartner Supply Chain Top 25. Why do we do this? Because our mission is to help inform you, the supply chain practitioner, in all the best ways to make your own supply chains more efficient and even profitable.

In each issue, we pack as much information as we can from some of the leading voices in the industry and academic community (if you are interested in participating, feel free to reach out to me at [email protected]). These experts share their tips for how supply chains can be improved, and their visions of how supply chains of the future might behave. But, as I’ve settled into the position of editor in chief of this esteemed publication, one of the articles that has stood out me as I reviewed past issues is the Gartner Supply Chain Top 25.

And the reason is simple: The companies that are highlighted are the best of the best, and we can all learn from them.

This year, we summarize Gartner’s report on the Top 25, highlight some of the key takeaways Gartner’s analysts uncovered, and offer a short snapshot of each of the companies honored. There is also a section on the Supply Chain Masters—Amazon, Apple, P&G, and Unilever. These companies earn special recognition for their continued excellence.

There is a new No. 1 supply chain this year as Schneider Electric has surpassed Cisco Systems, the top supply chain organization for the previous three years. There are plenty of nuggets in the article, so I encourage you to dive in and learn.

Gartner provides more detailed information on what makes these companies top supply chain organizations, as well as more in-depth biographical information on each company on its website (gartner.com/en/supply-chain/research/supply-chain-top-25).

Finally, one last appeal from me on Peerless Media’s NextGen Supply Chain Conference. This year’s event, which will take place Oct. 16-18 at the Chicago Athletic Association, will feature top executives highlighting current and coming supply chain technologies and processes. This will be my first experience at the event and I can’t wait to learn from all of the experience that will be on hand. Please join me at the event. You can register at nextgensupplychainconference.com or by going to scmr.com and clicking the “events” tab.

I hope to see you all there.
