World of Procurement Community on Discord

World of Procurement is now live as a virtual community on Discord. I set this Discord Server up in secret in March time, and only the legendary Procurement Doctor, Karthik Rama, was in there with me. Big thanks to Karthik for getting involved at the start.

I wanted to create a safe space, full of diverse people, to talk about Procurement, Supply Chain and Contract Management. Here at World of Procurement, we are about pushing the professions forward, using tech and bringing new, younger people into these professions. Discord makes sense as a place where people create communities around gaming, sport, NFTs and numerous other areas.

I'm looking to build quality over quantity in terms of the types of topics versus the number of people on the Server. That much is crucial, and everything else will fall to the wayside.

World of Procurement, super happy to have you here. I'm announcing World of Procurement discord, community server, of a mouthful, but that's what happens when you pick a name like World of Procurement and use it for everything. I'm super excited about this community service discord has been a place that I've really enjoyed using over the well, just for our 2021. Actually, I got into NFT as I'm looking into that. What Gary Vaynerchuk was doing with his Veefriends and then I've, I I've used discord on and off, from some of my favorite streamers and gamers, things like that. I thought, what? LinkedIn is sometimes just a bit problematic with the way in which it drives traffic to content. I was guessing I was a bit frustrated about using LinkedIn all the time for one. I actually don't want to be on social media all the time, like being glued to my phone and doing the inevitable scroll.

00:59

Like for me, where's the value there. Like I really don't get a huge amount of value from it. I wanted to create something where as space that I can carve out where we can have awesome real time conversations. When I started getting into this NFT world and exploring the metaverse and this digital world and just think ready, player one, I started to think, how can we do that with procurement supply chain, contract management communities? How can we build a space virtually, digitally, where we can all come together? And that's kind of the higher concept here. It's not just another community where you can go on and talk and chat. You don't have to bring your real self here. You can bring your persona, your online persona to it as well. You don't have to have a profile image that shows your face for me. I'm currently rocking Pug from Pug Force.

01:49

I might use my Pugfrens one, and I'm sorry, I might use my cyberrex and anything else. Cause yeah, I mean, I didn't have any of the really big NFTs just yet. What I'm saying is bring whoever you want to be online into this world. The only consideration, the only thing that you need to do is be a nice human being. We are a place of diverse people who are bringing themself in the way in which they want to be seen online, digitally to the world of procurement. That's kind of my vision conceptual at present. I'm just kind of exploring where it's going to go. Can it go further as a business? I mean, I don't really care about that. Firstly, just first and foremost here, let's build an awesome community where people can be themselves interact, get, make friends, build knowledge, build community, build business, because I just want anyone in this space who's willing to contribute, engage, running a lot of knowledge, bring a lot of thought the care, if you work for a company that sells procurement products, like come in, pitch that in specific areas, I just don't care.

02:55

Just come in, have fun yourself. That's yeah, that's kind of my vision to the water procurement discord community at present really early days in terms of membership is free. Just come in, we might open up donations so that it gives us of a kickback so that we can fund core staff in the space. I've always been about, I don't want to put stuff behind paywalls. Like I think I've probably left a lot of money on the table as I've been going through this and building up a following and World of Procurement. Do what, like I think I've probably left a lot of money on the table as I've been going through this and building up a following and water procurement. Like the podcast is close to 20,000 downloads now. I mean, LinkedIn content does very well when we post it and we don't always post too regularly at the moment taking a bit of a break from that.

03:31

The, I mean, LinkedIn content does very well when we post it and we don't always post too regularly at the moment taking a bit of a break from that. Just figuring things out. It's, it's interesting to see that we could probably make a lot of money and we still may explore making a lot of money, but I don't want things behind pay walls. I want everything to be free for our users. I start thinking about, can we do real world events? And I think, is that a good direction? Or can we do everything within this? Like metaverse concept, I'm kind of waffling here, you get it. This is kind of the vision. This is where I want to take it. I really hope that you will be part of this if you're up for it. How you join is just so simple. You need to be on discord, make an account there.

04:11

Join the server, and you can do that just by following the link, just download in the description, show notes, comments, depending on where you're listening or watching this piece of content right now. Come in and say hi to people. Have conversation in the general area, go into specific areas and talk about wherever you want regarding, your expertise of what you're looking for. First and foremost, it's all about the community area going in and having fun. We're bringing people in to start doing live conversations and we do events and meetups within the discourse over going forward. So I'm really excited about it. I'll leave it there. See you very soon. Thanks so much for listening for watching, for being part of this. It's so awesome to have you here. Goodbye.
