Before I answer the headline question, you should know that my Mother and Father were born in 1918 and 1916, respectively – which means they grew up during the Great Depression. Consider that to be my one and only hint – que Jeopardy music.

Looking at the following options below, which one would you choose as your primary motive for buying Maple Leaf’s premium cut of meat:

  1. Price discount – by the way, there was an added $3 off coupon, lowering the price from $15 to $4
  2. It’s made by a “Carbon Neutral” company
  3. It has all-natural ingredients – no artificial flavors or colors

As a family of 6 – with teenagers, you can imagine the food consumption in the Hansen household. So, with that in mind, the 50% off plus an additional $3 off coupon is what caught my eye. I have seen this product before – it is ready from the oven in 12 minutes and is so tender you can cut it with a fork. I also knew it was all-natural ingredients, which is important to me. But at $15 a package in which one would feed two of our four kids, I couldn’t cost justify it. Especially since I can still hear my mom and dad talk about spending wisely.

I found it interesting that the carbon-neutral tag alone would not influence me to buy the product. In fact, with grocery prices rising and a possible recession on the horizon, I would have still purchased the product without it being carbon neutral.

By the way, and this is also the procurement guy in me, check out these other savings on quality products:

A few days earlier, I purchased the same coffee at $9.99 for a 30-pack – I went back to get more, and the price was up to $22.99. By the way, as a writer, COFFEE IS MY THING!

Finally, you can’t walk away from savings on a top-quality product – check out this basket of chicken, fish, and pork chops at 50% off. With a family our size, that will last about 2 weeks, give or take a few days.
