Deadline for offers to be submitted on the JAGGAER platform is September 15

Madrid, July 28, 2021: The European eCare project is seeking innovative digital solutions to prevent and manage frailty in the health of senior citizens. Endowed with a total of €3.9 million, it has now launched Phase 1 for tenders.

Any provider, individually or jointly, can present their offer for this first phase up until September 15, 2021, through the JAGGAER eCare platform: JAGGAER was the initial coordinator of the project at its inception two years ago. It is now managed by the Spanish consultancy firm, SILO.

The total for this first phase, consisting of the design of the solution to meet the need, amounts to €392,000, which will be distributed among the chosen suppliers. The winning contracts will be announced on November 16, and the selected suppliers will continue to participate in the following phases of the tender, which will include the development and testing of the solutions presented in real conditions in the four purchasing healthcare institutions.

eCare is 90% funded by the European Commission under the Horizon 2020 program and coordinated by a consortium of eight public and private entities. Through the prevention and comprehensive management offered by the awarded projects, its aim is to promote the independence and wellbeing of the elderly, while reducing the financial burden on healthcare services.

The group of purchasers includes Consorci Sanitari Integral (Hospitalet, Barcelona) and the city of Santander in Spain, together with Azienda Sanitaria Locale de Benevento in Italy and Aachen University Hospital in Germany.

Frailty and Loneliness, the Main Challenges of an Aging Society

The solutions provided by eCare focus especially on those people who feel lonely or isolated. Although longevity is one of the major milestones of modern societies, paradoxically the quality of life of these people in their later years can be worsened by frailty, a clinical condition that affects one in every four adults in Europe.

This is also the most sensitive aspect of an aging population, which in turn affects many of the body’s physiological systems.
