“The lithium-ion battery, one of the primary components of an electric vehicle, requires various minerals, including cobalt. However, mining these minerals comes at an ethical, moral, and environmental cost.” Iain Campbell McKenna, Silent Victims: The Moral Cost of Electric Cars (April 12th, 2023) https://bit.ly/3pcqW5f

“The stream of used cars heading to West African ports is only expected to increase with the West’s shift to electric vehicles. As wealthy countries set aggressive goals to move consumers towards electric vehicles to cut planet-warming pollution, gas-powered cars won’t necessarily go away.” – Nimi Princewill & Ella NilsenCNN As the West surges toward electric cars, here’s where the unwanted gas guzzlers (May 21st, 2023) https://cnn.it/3NKw2iN

Excerpt from July 2023 article – In what way or ways is achieving a zero carbon footprint a Pyrrhic victory? In what way or ways do the costs of going green outweigh the benefits? What if we are wrong?

As demonstrated by the articles above, there has been much controversy surrounding the commitment to the world’s transition to electric vehicles (EVs).

Rather than providing some clarity regarding the EV transition, yesterday’s Consumer Reports article, Electric Vehicles Are Less Reliable Than Conventional Cars, muddies the water further – in a good way by making us ask the tough questions.

By the way, asking tough questions isn’t an indication of anyone being for or against EVs but a matter of getting it done right! That is why John Elkington’s 1997 book, Cannibals With Forks – The Triple Bottom Line of 21st Century Business, is even more relevant today than it was then.

What About The Supply Chain?

“AAM is made up of dreamers, thinkers, and doers who are #BringingtheFutureFaster. AAM’s own Jen Neumann, Assistant General Counsel, recently served as a panelist for an insightful discussion hosted by the Vehicle Service & Warranty Lifecycle Summit. The topic, “Auto Recall 2023 – Opportunities and Challenges Defining the Future of Auto Recall,” explored the automotive industry shifting towards a mix of new electric and old gas vehicles, potential vehicle defects, the expanded role of automotive defect insurance, future remedies and how it ties into the supply chain sector.” – AAM – American Axle & Manufacturing LinkedIn Post (November 28th, 2023)

Regarding the comment above, how does this all tie into the supply chain sector? I look forward to hearing your thoughts.
