Like salt and pepper, Abbott and Costello and Ben & Jerry’s RFPs and Procurement are synonymous. It would even be reasonable to suggest that RFPs are considered by many to be the Swiss Army Knife of the procurement world.

But are they really the end-all, be-all multi-functional tool for any and all acquisitions?

Nico Bac is not alone in thinking that an RFP is not always the best way to acquire technology, among other things.

In today’s post, I share my thoughts on RFPs.

Nico Bac, your post resonates on two different levels.

It speaks to the overall or general problems with RFPs for anything other than Dynamic Flux Indirect materials.

1. In this video interview with Judy Bradt – which had more than 20K views, we talk about how most RFP winners are known before the RFP is actually issued – https://bit.ly/41TvvAr

One term Judy uses worth noting is “legitimate preference,” which leads the Bradt conversation directly into the next point and your post about RFPs.

2. This excerpt from the Dec. 2023 article, “What’s The Cure For Solution Map Migraine?” references a post and comments by Kate VitasekDavid Bateman, and Neel Sharma – https://bit.ly/4aTFZnE

“Instead of company names, we should know the names of the people behind each one. Who are they, what is their experience and expertise, and do they have “the team” that can work with our team to make it happen? Will an RFP alone really answer the above questions?

  • What are your thoughts about RFPs?
  • When should you use an RFP?
  • When shouldn’t you use an RFP?
