When Does A Five Cent Part Cost You A Million

Based on my research – including feedback from practitioners, here are the three main challenges manufacturers face today :

  • Data Accuracy regarding evolving PO information and final reconciliation, including the negative impact on supplier relationships, e.g., DPOs/DSOs.
  • Overcoming Supplier Resistance to Adoption – forcing the supplier to adopt a different system, e.g., focusing on “supplier adoptability” versus “supplier adaptability.”
  • Strategic Provider Partnering, e.g., the service provider stepping out from behind the technology and logo to become a problem-solver first and then a technology provider.

Why am I sharing this information with you?

There are two reasons:

  1. Would you add anything to the above list?
  2. Of the three, which would be the most pressing issue?

There is also a third reason.

Over the past few weeks, I have had an increasing number of service providers, consultants, and practitioners reach out to me, asking me about the differences between using an agent-based versus an equation-based model and how it can be applied in either a new or existing implementation.

While each conversation is confidential – yes, the names will be withheld to protect the curious, the common thread in all of them is the ability to gain meaningful traction with technology – including AI. In short, while the technologies have evolved amazingly over the past 40 to 50 years, the ability to leverage them effectively continues to be a problem.

Of course, the use of advanced, self-learning algorithms is nothing new – it has been around for a long time. Even platform reliability and stability are better than ever now as the technology works as advertised.

So, if it isn’t a technology problem, what is it that continues to limit the number of successful digital transformation initiatives?

In a series of 20-minute videos – starting with manufacturing, I will look beyond the technology and introduce you to the people behind it because they, not the tech or the logos, are the key to digitally addressing the above challenges and transforming your supply chain. I want to know their answers to the above three questions – which will tell you everything you need to know.

A New Twist

Rather than holding a webinar, I will be recording the 20-minute sessions and sending them out to my specific connections in the manufacturing industry. I will then make myself available to meet via Zoom to answer any questions the videos raise because I want that one-on-one engagement with you.

It’s time to stop talking about technology – because it works, and start solving problems.

One final point: you don’t have to wait for me to contact you to receive videos in the series. Drop me an email at jon@pimedia1.com or send me a message on LinkedIn with your email address, and I will forward you each video in the series when they are released.

For convenience, you can also use the form below to request a copy of the video.
