Jon W. Hansen To be fair, I think the struggle across many companies is trying to understand what investment is actually required in order to harness and foster data intelligence because it’s not really black and white. Data intelligence is as much art as science and is heavily about human behaviour, understanding and driving. It’s a skill development that’s required across all users, not just in IT, which is where data is typically led from in traditional org structures. To be able to invest effectively, there also needs to be the realization that that investment 1. isn’t a one-and-done, 2. it means possibly supplanting other investment areas, and 3. needs to be measurable or outcome-driven.

Shira Yoskovitch, excellent points.

I am going to share two posts with you.

The first is from 2021 – https://bit.ly/424I9fJ

In it, Microsoft‘s Satya Nadella talks about the importance of creating a data culture.

Harvard Business Review also discusses data culture, and how it must start at the top.

Here is the second article from 2023 – https://bit.ly/3LWy5z1

The second article talks about the fear of the Black Box and the threat it poses to white-collar workers who are concerned about being replaced by data-smart AI technology. Here is an excerpt:

Daniel J. Finkenstadt wrote about “the amazing ease with which one can merge data, clean data, analyze data etc. with code interpreter AND the concerning ease with which one can create and manipulate data for the results we want.” In other words, what’s in the black box shouldn’t be a mystery, let alone a challenge. Yet, for many, it is just that – a mystery of unknown AI machinations.”

Recognizing AI’s impact on data management, a recent SIG|ORG & Scoutbee poll is telling with only 8% of CPOs driving AI transformation.

So, who is leading the AI transformation charge at your organization?
