What is the “Cando” executive mindset for AI adoption?

EDITOR’S NOTE: The following is a recent post by Cando Rail & Terminals President & CEO Brian Cornick. My response follows:

“Joe McKendrick highlights the persistent staffing issues affecting supply chains, particularly in the context of labor shortages across design, production, and distribution.

The solution may be AI and automation. Implementing generative AI involves skills beyond data migration, including collecting external supply chain market data and training chatbots in specific operations domains.

But while AI and automation can contribute to addressing labor shortages in supply chains, a holistic and human-centric approach, along with proper training and adoption strategies, is crucial for success.”

MY RESPONSE

My first thought, Brian Cornick, is that we need more CEOs and C-Suite executives to read your post and embrace your mindset.

After 40-plus years in high tech and almost as long in procurement, I can say with great certainty two things:

1. We need to stop chasing solutions and start solving problems (see the article below with an actual DND case study) – https://bit.ly/3FBnFRr

2. We need AI solution provider leadership to step out from behind their company’s logos and demonstrate their experience and expertise in solving the problems of the industries they seek to serve. – https://bit.ly/3R2SdT9

To sum it up, we need a people, process, and technology approach to any tech – including AI, instead of a technology, process, and people approach.

What are your thoughts?

How do you know if your C-Suite is AI-ready and able?
