EDITOR’S NOTE: Tealbook’s Stephany Lapierre reached out to me, indicating that she wanted to hear my perspective on her most recent post, which I was glad to do. I also encourage you to check out her post and offer your thoughts on the question of the gap between data promise and data realization.

I get from where Michael Lamoureux is coming. After 20-plus years of the industry acknowledging the importance of data without turning that recognition into scalable and meaningful action, data skepticism is understandable. In short, he is not alone in his thinking.

When it comes to data, what is even more frustrating is that today’s technology can do so much as long as you don’t lead with technology because it isn’t a tech issue.

Here are a couple of excerpts from an upcoming article I wrote about data culture and collaboration:

“Data culture refers to an organizational environment where data is not only valued but is also readily accessible and used consistently to drive decision-making processes. It’s a culture where data literacy is widespread, and data-driven insights are the norm rather than the exception.” – DataCamp (2023)

“Like data, the importance of collaboration is universally acknowledged, but not enough organizations practice it on a regular, enterprise-wide basis.”

“When it comes to your data, is your organization ready to “intentionally” step it up and do what needs to be done both culturally and collaboratively to maximize your business’ greatest currency and asset?”

When it comes to data, is your organization stepping up?
