Pop Quiz: When was the following article excerpt about orchestration written:

“During the alignment phase, stakeholder input (especially from your purchasing department and supply base) will also enable you to lay a solid foundation to evaluate current and proposed technologies. Besides eliminating compliance challenges, you will be able to know exactly where and how you can utilize orchestrated technology to deliver savings.”

Today’s post is my response to a great post by Mathew Schulz in which he writes “Digital transformation has become a buzzword . . . Tricking you into thinking ‘advancement.”

Mathew then goes on to emphasize “But it’s not just about AI, SaaS, Automation, New Technology, and Efficiency and effectiveness.”

So, what is it about? Here are my thoughts.

I know I will sound like a broken record here, Mathew Schulz. However, my 2007 series, Dangerous Supply Chain Myths, has stood the test of time. Specifically regarding your question about digital transformation – https://bit.ly/3Scmn4U

Here is an excerpt from that 2007 post that will sound very familiar to what the industry is talking about in 2024:

“During the alignment phase, stakeholder input (especially from your purchasing department and supply base) will also enable you to lay a solid foundation to evaluate current and proposed technologies. Besides eliminating compliance challenges, you will be able to know exactly where and how you can utilize orchestrated technology to deliver savings.”

“Orchestration” is not a new concept, as I used it in the late 1990s and 2000s to achieve the results highlighted in the above article. What concerns me is that today’s talk on orchestration centers on technology-led initiatives versus people and process-led approaches. It is a big mistake that will result in the same outcome we experienced in 2019 regarding digital transformation, e.g., the Deloitte Global CPO Survey results – https://bit.ly/3J79EfX
