“Quiet and mysterious, ninja warriors are known for their strength, skill and stealth. Turn your back for just a moment, and a ninja might catch you by surprise! What is it about ninjas that’s so fascinating?” – Chicago Public Library

A Necessary Preamble

In 2009, Procurement Insights did a series of interviews and a panel with the leaders for providers I called the New Titans of the SaaS World series.

Joining me on June 25th 2009, to discuss their take on this changing of the guard were Anurag Dixit, Vice President, Marketing (Zycus); Steve Wargalla, Vice President, Foundation & Managing Director (QStrat); Rob Bernshteyn, Chief Executive Officer (Coupa), Leonora Valvo, Chief Executive Officer (aventri) and Rich Becks, Senior Vice President (E2open).

It would be an understatement to say that this was one of my most enjoyable and energized broadcasts, especially considering where these companies are today.

What prompted me to take this stroll down radio memory lane? The following graphic is from October 2023:

Last week, we kicked off the series with a May 2020 video interview with TealBook’s Stephany Lapierre.

This week’s theme is “From Stealth to Spotlight,” a video panel of CPOs assessing Market Dojo.

Why Hidden In Plain Site?

You will see readily recognizable names if you examine the above Deloitte graph. I am discussing Coupa, SAP Ariba, JAGGAER, Ivalua, and GEP in the Suite & S2C section. Even though Gartner lists the above organizations as Competitors and Alternatives to Market Dojo, I thought, “Where’s the Dojo?” A question of greater interest is “Who Are the Dojo’s?”

Enter The CPO Arena

Coming before a global panel of 5 CPOs – Industry Experts, all service providers were invited to present their company and solution, followed by a somewhat “energized” Q&A. Market Dojo was one such provider, and below is the recorded video segment of that session.

What About The Others

Referencing the Deloitte Chart, what do I know about the other data management companies?

Besides Coupa – who was an original 2009 Titan, I know the others to varying degrees – some better than others. However, I will reach out to these leaders in the coming weeks to see if I can reconnect with them so that you can also connect with them.

Remember, the strength and vision of any company begin with the leader. Here are the other leaders:

NOTE: Between 2009, when I first interviewed him, and his departure via sale to Thoma Bravo, Rob Bernshteyn built what can only be described as a behemoth in Coupa. You can read about his legacy here. In the meantime, here is the current leader at Coupa.
